Cell Site Analysis Mobile Tracking

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

With the number of people who own a mobile phone ever increasing, the ability to use their data in criminal investigations is also on the rise. One aspect of this is cell site analysis which is the technical process of locating the exact geographic location of a phone when a call or text was made or received. Therefore this can pinpoint whether a suspected criminal was in a particular area at the time when a crime was committed. Our expert team at CCL Forensics have all the experience and relevant technical equipment to help with any evidence extraction.

Using information from phone masts of the particular phone service provider, this process can show whether a phone was or wasn’t in a neighbourhood at a certain time. The information from this can then be used in court proceedings by either the prosecution to help pinpoint a criminal to a location or by the defence in providing a potential alibi for the suspect.

We have a specific in-house team at the CCL Forensics secure, state of the art labs who are trained to fully deal with all cell site analysis cases. They will consult their findings throughout the process before (where necessary) physically surveying and measuring where mobile phone signals are received from in the area. The specialists will then collate detailed and concise maps to show the cell analysis data with the final task of our skilled department acting as an expert witness and presenting our findings for your case in court.

Cell site analysis is a highly intricate and in depth method of tracking the location and path of mobile phone usage. The results received from us at CCL Forensics can then be used in relation to other evidence such as CCTV footage to confirm whether or not the owner of the phone was at the scene of a crime.

Smartphone, iPhone and Mobile Phone Forensics

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

With the current rapid surge in mobile phone technology, many criminals have begun to manipulate the capability of such convenient and widely used devices. The development of advanced smartphones, such as the iPhone, have presented a new temptation to thieves and villains alike, thus producing a new threat to the public and business sector. Through utilising and misusing handsets within their illegal activity, they have been able to open up a whole new avenue within which to participate in criminal practice. Luckily, we at CCL Forensics are able to efficiently close such openings, through the implementation of our highly skilful mobile phone forensics.

Smartphones can be customised with a whole host of applications, all of which can leave valuable digital traces of how – and even where – they have been used. Such popular handsets are also being used to record videos, and take pictures of their illicit activity, due to the increasingly capable technology installed within such devices.

Using our own internally developed tools and techniques to compliment our comprehensive forensic portfolio, we possess the specialist skills and equipment to retrieve sensitive data, which could prove vital within an investigation. Our effective methods and expertise give us the ability to recover deleted messages, videos and pictures, which may be invaluable in convicting potential suspects – or uncovering a user’s activity. We can also analyse phone data to establish when calls were made, whom the calls were to, and at what time they were made. From such data, we will collate extensive and in-depth reports as to the findings, to give you the most information possible.

We are not only experienced, but also extremely knowledgeable in gaining essential information from all makes, models and versions of Smartphones and iPhones. Our impressive history of collating and uncovering vital evidence using mobile phone forensics, has been crucial within hundreds of separate cases, allowing us to continue to play a crucial part within many important investigations.

Smart Mobile Phone Forensics

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Logging on to the internet has never been more accessible. Not only can individuals visit their favourite websites from the comfort of their own home or at work, but they can also browse the web whilst they are on the go. Of course, this has resulted in a higher number of crimes that involve mobile phones – in particular smart phones. This is only perpetuated by the increased usage of these systems for banking, storing personal information and purchasing online using credit and debit cards. Fortunately, CCL Forensics offer mobile phone forensics that can help the police and other law enforcement agencies to tackle these types of crimes.

Mobile phone analysis can be a highly successful means of pinning down particular individuals to a crime. This can be done by highlighting particular data, online activity or calls that have been made by the owner. Drug dealing is one of the areas that this type of digital forensics has been most useful.

Unfortunately, without the correct tools and expertise mobile phone analysis is very difficult. The main reason for this is that each mobile phone has different software, resulting in the need for different techniques to be used to identify certain information and data.

With many years experience offering digital forensics services in relation to computers, we at CCL Forensics have developed the knowledge that is required for mobile phone analysis. At present our portfolio of software and hardware enables our analysts to examine various areas of a mobile phone, from the obvious and relatively simple (text messages, call records, phone books, videos and photos) to the more complex (for example web history, application data, Bluetooth data, emails and other functionality found on the new generation of mobile devices).

Anyone that is concerned that a mobile phone has been used as part of crime should contact a member of the team on the telephone number. For further information about mobile phone forensics take a look at the website.
